Weeks 21 & 22 - French Open (Roland-Garros) - Paris, France (clay) - main draw

L128:  Jacob Fearnley WR 122 (CH = 49 last June) vs Juan Manuel Cerúndolo (ARG) WR 54 (= CH)

Sinner in the next round if he wins that.

L128:  (20) Cameron Norrie WR 22 (CH = 8 in September 2022) vs Adolfo Daniel Vallejo (PAR) WR 70 (= CH)

Vallejo's a new one on me.

Qualifiers (or LLs) get Landaluce, Rinderknech (22), Shapovalov, Vacherot (16), Cobolli (10), Zhang, de Miñaur (8), Blockx, Carabelli, Ruud (15), Sonego, Fonseca (28), Prizmic, Royer, Tirante, Trungelliti or Opelka.

Best for Toby would have been a very winnable match which at this stage would probably have been just a few of the qualifier options.

If not one of these, arguably next best was the opportunity to play someone like ADM on a big court. Enjoy the expeeience, young man.

I'm not sure this is such a bad draw. Is AdM particularly good on clay. His results lately suggest not.

He lost in the semi finals yesterday to Tommy Paul in three sets, ATP500 Hamburg so he is pretty good! Also it isnt as though he is coming from a dearth of matches, he will be match fit.

Before this week, ADM had won only 3 matches in 4 tournaments on the clay which for a player ranked in the top 10 isn't great. I#m sure the bookies will have ADM as favourite by a comfortable margin.

Id say clay isnt adms best surface at all, but he managed to beat Cam on it earlier this year (not that it is Cams best surface either!)

AdM has a pretty excellent record against British players unfortunately. But still an excellent opportunity for Toby - in his interview after qualifying for RG he said that he was really keen to be around the biggest players and on the same stage as them.

Getting to compete with a top 10 player will be a great experience for him, and probably helps a bit that it's De Minaur's least favourite surface, although he did have an excellent RG run last year.

A loss in the second round blowing a 2 set lead to Bublik?

Hardly an excellent run?

Maybe thinking of 2024?

Reached the QF, beating Michelson, Munar, Struff, and Medvedev before losing to Zverev.
