Week 23 - WTA500 - HSBC Championships, Queens, London

Ominously good first game from Vekic.

And second and third! She has come out swinging like she did against Katie. Emma 0-3.

Wow. Vekic playing very very well. This won't last an hour if this continues. Emma must get her first serve in more.

Yes - horribly heavy balls off her racket

And so deep

Emma might have to 'mess up' the game a bit

1st set gone in all probability. Hope this doesn't end 6-0 6-0. Vekic has all the answers right now. Unless her level drops I can't see Emma winning this.

Wow 6-0. Donna playing some lights out stuff. Emma needs to find some first serves

This has horrible echoes of some of Emmas very heavy defeats to some of the top players

All Emma can do is forget that set and start again. Must get her first serve in though.

Very good couple of games from Emma. Again really needs to hold again now.

Wowsers! Not able to watch and am a bit shocked by that first set score after watching yesterday's performance! What's changed in the second set. Doesn't seem from stats to be getting more first serves in. Is she going for her shots more or something? Doing something different tactically?

Basically Emma didn't panic and Vekic's level dropped a fraction, Emma created the opportunity, pounced and Vekic is starting to get a little more ragged and uncertain. She didn't play a bad first set at all.

Also, I don't usually get to watch more than highlights except the Jovic match yesterday. I didn't really focus on this til later in the match but towards the end against Jovic it seemed to me that the vast majority of Emmas first serves were going out wide on both sides. She seems to serve really well that match - is that fair to say?

Purely on the pattern of the score this set feels a lot like the one against Sabalenka at Wimbledon
