Got the impression it was very hot out in Portugal, battle of fitness and Indi was significantly stronger through the second half of the match smile

A super last game as Lauryn breaks and takes the first set 7-5 against the top-250 player

Hruncakova is a former top 50 player too so this would be a massive win for Lauryn if she can keep this going

R1:- Lauryn John-Baptiste (GBR) WR909 [Q13] def Viktoria Hruncakova (CZE) WR223 [3] 7-5 6-2

Not a career best win - she beat Mananchaya Sawangkaew WR209 at Ilkley last year

Not to take anything away from Lauryn, but Hruncakova has played a lot recently and probably needs a break

I thought Hruncakova was running around pretty well

She was obviously landing some good serves, and cracking some groundshots

But Lauryn makes playing tennis look very simple, she just strokes the ball around, takes it on the rise, off her toes, if necessary, and really out-foxed Hruncakova who looked a little resigned in the second but certainly didn't roll over and die
