12 closest predictors can win points in our annual table - including those not showing above (12 closest to final tally up or down).
There are only 11 who predicted up to the current max so obviously they already know they are in the points. I presume all on 32 get 1 point rather than 1 being drawn out of a hat.
Hi Brendan - so if we hit 31, all on 32 or 33, say, equally count with those on 30 or 29. If players are equal, they share the points for that place. Ill do an illustration shortly for landing on 31!
those on 31 get it spot on and a) win and get 50 points for winning and b) get plus 5 bonus points each - that would be Brendan F, Blue Belle and vHughes - so all would get 55 points
those on 30 and 32 are equally close (1 off) as each other and share 4th place (30 - Rain Delay and RJH1962, 32 - Sheddie and goldfish) - 4th place gives them all 25 points
those on 29 and 33 are equally close (2 off) and share 9th place - that would be Sliced Backhand and Densher on 29 wins, and mdewey, Miriam abc, Coup Droit and Brittak who went for 33). All of those would get 5 points each for equal 9th place.
That scenario would give us 14 players in the points and so no more would be distributed.
I calculate that no one on 34 or more has a chance of any points in this game.
If we end exactly as we sit now, those who predicted 25 would get 50 win points but no bonus points, and I calculate that those going up to 32 wins predicted would also get points. There is an anonymous voter on 30 would could mess things up in terms of those calculations if they come clean between now and the end of the British involvement!! There are 12 players between 23 currently and 32.
So, hope that sort of makes sense - obviously, different scenarios might change the points tally slighlty. The anonymous person on 30, if they are reading this, has the chance to raise their hand now, if they wish!!

I toyed with averaging or splitting points but decided against it.
eg if we have 4 players on equal 1st, they would all currently get 50 points. I could have decided to give them the average of 1st to 4th points i.e. (50+40+30+25)/4 = 36.25 points each - but this gets very messy and I felt winning is winning regardless of how many win, so 50 points (or possibly plus 5 with the bonus) is what I would allocate - and for fairness carry that on down the listings

Seems fair enough, although Formula 1 type points ( I realise that you have moved from their scale ) works better well in Formula 1, where no-one finishes equal ( I want to see that race if anyone ever does ).

Yep, true! and yes, for sure!
Averaging the points out is easy enough, it is just a formula in my spreadsheet and I may continue to tinker with the points system as things evolve. For this year, however, I am not FIFA and won't make any dodgy changes half way through the event!
