So how many of you actually watched the match ? I didn't notice Annabell's daughter there, but she did talk to her coach a lot.
Isn't it Annabel's daughter, the one doing all the interviewing, with hair like Anbabel's?
If it's not, it's some other interviewer and makes no difference
I was there for all of it and, in the third set, was right next to the Annabel daughter girl, and it was dreadful - twice she told her she was stopping because of this, and half laughed, once she said it whole going to her chair, and there were lots of half-giggles, shrugs, just nonsense stuff
I was sitting directly behind Saskovichs coach so in that corner where the chat was going on. And What has been said elsewhere is correct. Btw the coach was busy taking notes and must have filled a whole notebook during the first set!

Its Abigail Johnson doing the interviewing. On TV anyway. I believe her and Katy are very good friends
Abigail started helping out at the Shrewbury ITF as she had a connection to the organisers and has managed to forge a career in tennis admin and commentary from the LTA to the tennis channel and the BBC.
She is friendly with lots of the players. She did some research andcspent a week with Katy seeing the delights of an overseas ITF (Sharm). I've seen her at Bolton with Olivia Nicholls and at Nottingham last week she was wandering round with Harriet.
Is the serve a weaker part of Ellas game or was she just having a really bad day with it because she played really well but couldnt land the first serves or get cheap points when she needed them
There are two ways to look at Ella's match as far as I'm concerned
Yes, she was very close, and her team were behind her all the way, and she played some very good tennis, and likes to mix it up i.e. sometimes hitting full-force first serves and sometimes rolling in slicey lefty first serves - it's not classic, I'm not convinced by it, but it's a clear choice, and often is effective (although looks awful when it goes wrong)
And she obviously was having a little problem with her hip and leg, and movement (and had an MTO for it)
So all that is very encouraging
The other side is that her team (a female coach and a guy who looked like a physical trainer) were working SO hard - every point, but every point, they're shouting: keep the energy up, Ella; push up; move on up the court; show more commitment; energy, Ella, energy...it was endless
And the point was they needed to do this because Ella was constantly wilting and looking dispirited
And it worked well, which is great, that's what a coach is for
But part of you thought it's just like taking a toddler for a walk: come on, good walking, nearly there, you can do it, not much more to go.....
I mean, she's 20 years old, surely she shouldn't need to be coaxed and cajooled through each and every point - can't she keep her own energy up, for goodness sake?
Im sorry and I know a lot of people, including me, are fond of Katy
But she's spent the past few games talking to Anbabel Croft''s daughter (i think it is), after every shot, rather than playing tennis, and keeps saying:
:this is why I'm stopping, coz of moments like this"
If you're stopping, Katy, stop
Let someone else have the chance, let Ella get on the court, and don't bother playing wildcard playoffs
(And if you're not stopping, then quit the amateur dramatics)
Katy has always had an excellent line in self deprecatory humour. It doesn't mean she's not trying.
I feel a big well done is in order to Esther - lots of people seem to have picked up on negatives, such as her style of play and forehand, but from her own point of view, it has been a fabulous run to come through the wildcard play offs and then win a match in qualifying.
I feel it is exactly why we had the play offs - to give lots of players the chance of making the qualifying, to see who is on form and maybe who wants it the most.
Well done also to Heather - she was probably next in line for a main draw wildcard and no doubt will feel she has a point to prove and would love to have another appearance in the main draw.
Anyway well done to both - and lots of close results for our other women who didn't make it, so not too bad a day in qualifying, given the rankings gap between our players and their opponents.

I can only comment on what I've seen on college streams and serves are a particularly problematic. There was one match where an opposition fan was reportedly counting her DFs and on their count it was something like 16 or 18 DFs in that one match.

Assuming that could be fixed? Given the right coach?
