Girls: 2026 European Summer Cups - U12/U14/U16/U18

The under 16s squeaked through to the European finals. Unsurprisingly Megan comfortably beat the BIH number two 6-1 6-2 while Dani lost 6-0 6-3 to their strong number 1 so it was all down to the doubles, which Dani and Annabel came through 7-6(4) 2-6 [10-6] They play Belgium tomorrow for seeding rights

The under 18s gained a consolation victory against Armenia with straight sets wins for Ophelia and Teddy. Teddy combined with Lara in the doubles to seal a 3-0 win

Excellent result for the under 16s as they beat Belgium 2-1 (Megan won 6-3 6-2, Dani 6-2 6-2, Megan/Annabel lost 4-2 2-4 [10-6] ) to secure a seeding spot. All the other group winners (Czechia, Spain, Romania) are stronger on paper. Only one of the three runners-up in other groups, Ukraine, appears stronger though (two top 100 ranked players). Hence the chances of the team qualifying for the Junior Billie Jean King Cup should be helped by drawing either Slovakia or Greece in next week's finals

The under 16s end up with the second best draw (Slovakia) for the finals which start tomorrow. They are no pushover though - their number one has reached the semis and final of her last two (J200) clay court events. Win tomorrow and as well as making the semis they will be guaranteed a slot in the Junior Billie Jean King Cup finals

Megan won easily 6-0 6-4, but as anticipated Dani is in a battle - currently one set all with live scores here

In the end a disappointing loss for the under 16s tempered somewhat with news about the BJK cup final, which improves their chances of qualification. Today it was revealed that Egypt will host the Junior Billie jean King Cup finals in early November. The number of European qualifiers is scheduled to be 6, but the host nation if European would have been guaranteed one of the 6 slots leaving just 5 qualifiers potentially from the Summer Cup. A further complication is that because Africa were only scheduled to have one qualifier (and is therefore not allowed to lose one to the host country), one less qualifier is required from another confederation. That decision though is based on where teams finished in 2025, and that affects South America (which had two countries, Peru and Chile, finishing 14th and 15th) rather than Europe.

The upshot is that the girls have a second chance to qualify tomorrow, but must beat Greece

Great that the girls have made it to the junior BJK Cup finals one way or another. I was following the tale, thanks David.

Hopefully they can step up a bit there.

The under 16 team finished 6th after a 2-0 defeat to Ukraine. Credit to Dani for pushing the JWR11 to a third set tiebreak. Top seeds Czechia, who included Jana Kovackova (JWR3 and just outside the WTA top 500), won the trophy.

The last finals to take place are the under 12s, starting tomorrow. They use a round robin format, and the British team faces Italy (tomorrow) Spain and France
