I think its pretty embarrassing that we havent had a single victory on the first day of Wimbledon even though many of the players were underdogs and we had injuries. Its not a good look that all 10 British players lost on opening day and the 11th is 2 games from defeat
Thats not a slight or criticism of the players performances today, its just a sorry state of affairs we havent had a single R1 winner yet

It doesnt help when your better players aren't here - Emma, Sonay, Jack. Only Cam & Katie B in top 60 playing...
Also there were some good performances from a couple of the youngsters and maybe we need to dialdown our expectations. As you say Paulisi our top class players arent here. The youngsters arent quite ready to step up yet but are progressing and apart from Mika who had a strange match, Hannah and Mimi did well against much higher ranked professionals. On the mens side, plenty in numbers but nobody good enough. Lets hope for a clean sweep today.. one way or the other..

It's easy to get swept up in the discourse around Wimbledon, but we should be more focused on the performances across the grasscourt season.
For ex, Hannah much improved from her earlier season form, and performed well against successive top 100 opponents. Whilst she didn't win lots, there were bright spots and matches for Mika too. Plenty of our men, would take the overall grasscourt season performance over a single win at Wimbledon.
The headlines won't be kind but that doesn't sell papers or get the comments sections going. Overall, it's been a good-to-very good grass period for a number of our players.

Yes - this was my point - to win R1, you're a top-64 player
And of course there are upsets, and God bless them
But we only have two top-64 players (Cam's loss was by far the most disappointing result of the day, and for that exact reason)
Katie B hasn't played yet
Ollie Tarvet, for instance, may be a top-128 player in level, on grass, but it's a stretch to have him as top-64 (and I know he won last year but that's part of the vagaries of the draw)
Net, net, though, everyone agrees that yesterday was a downer of a day - the little crumbs of optimism for the future are fair enough but not what people are looking for on Day 1 of Wimbly - and completely understandably
So, here's hoping for a Terrific Tuesday - to be honest, after Mournful Monday, even a Tolerable Tuesday would be OK
If Katie B doesn't let the pressure and occasion get to her she should win against an admittedly very talented young qualifier. Provided Katie S is ok physically I'd hope she should win today as well which would probably be up there as one of the biggest achievements of her career given all the setbacks and she'd get a big show court R2 match against Keys
