Weeks 26-27 - The Championships, Wimbledon - Singles - grass

Swan is 1 game away, she looks really confident which is the most encouraging thing

I see that Tyra had great success in junior slams, especially playing doubles with Jovic. Another one to watch in the future.

 Or now. Unfortunately.

Her dad is American, a basketball player

Tyra played for the US up until two years ago

But she moved to Italy (for his basketball) as a young girl

And said a couple of years ago, that she didn't like America

And so switched to Italy

I also like her because she told the Elite Tennis Centre in Nice (where Meg Knight is now) to go stuff it - she was there three weeks and said their advice was just daft and didn't suit her at all - good girl

Just to add a little information from Wiki. She was born in Rome, and has dual nationality and an Italian mother. I see she was also JR2 and won three of the four Junior Doubles slams.

Another massive disappointment and missed opportunity for Katie B at Wimbledon. It feels like Wimbledon after Wimbledon there's so much promise and she delivers so little.

Tbh I turned over to watch Katie Swann after KB was broken in set two. It has been noted on here before that KB tends to freeze on the big stage but it looks like Swann may be the first Brit through to round two. What a match she's playing!

Must admit I did exactly the same. After a couple of games you could tell Katie B wasnt going to win that match. Come on Katie S. Can hardly watch!

YES !!!

Katie held it together so well there with all these MPs missed, especially after that high bouncing ball that she didn't put away

I was courtside last year at Roehampton when she lost her QR1 qualifying match. Feeling quite emotional.

Agree. Just watched the replay couldnt stand the chance she might lose that final game. So pleased for her. It makes the wait worthwhile. New ranking?

I couldn't watch after she went to break point, so happy for her.

Katie Swan was serving for the match at 5-4 40-0, having won 25 of her 26 first serve points, then lost three points in a row on her first serve. However she steadied her nerves and got over the line. This is apparently the 2nd time she has reached R2 and the 2nd time she has beaten Begu to get there.

So pleased for Katie S!

In terms of live ranking, that win took her to 170.

Amazing Katie. I thought Begu played 3 of the 4 previous match points exceptionally well, so thrilled she got it over the line.

After everything she's been through too
