Scan has revealed a stress fracture?

Take her pain and give it to zverev

What a shame for Emma, she looked so good at Queens, hopefully she can recover quickly and pick up form ahead of the US open. Harriet getting a lucky loser is a nice plus though, who is her round 2 seed?

Depending on the severity of the fracture a stress fracture will take 6 to 8 weeks to heal during which time you will need to rest the affected leg and certainly not put too much load bearing weight on it. After that you will need a period of fitness training to build up the muscles which will have suffered some waste. Let's see how she does but I would say 10 weeks before she is back on court in any decent capacity is a possibility. So may be 1st week of September.

With luck she might make the US Open but I'd say it is unlikely.  Though treatment is so much better now than it used to be.

Such a pity for Emma to have another injury that will keep her out for weeks.
I fear it is too late for Ostapenko to be promoted, as the order of play for tomorrow has been published.

From the Grand Slam rulbook "Any vacancy created by the withdrawal of a seed which occurs after the release of the Order of Play for the first day of the Main Draw shall be filled by eligible Lucky Losers."

Very sorry to hear Emma's bad news - she isn't having much luck with injuries and I thought she had a good chance of making Round 3 this year. Hope she gets well soon.

I' will be amazed now if they leave the courts as they are - Ruzic versus a lucky loser on Court One to open up. Surely not.

The organisers though, do have a big problem regarding this - it is the first match of the day, so presumably you can't really bring someone else forward who is due to be on court as the 4th match (like Hannah for instance) and expect them to open up. It would though be possible to switch Harriet's match with Ostapenko to Court One and then put Ruzic on later somewhere else, or maybe have the women's match last up and put Hannah on there as the 3rd match of the day, or perhaps Korpatsch v Gauff.

Yeah I hadn't spotted this was different to the WTA Rule where they'll move a seed after the order of play is out.

I wonder if they might move Mika-Bencic over to Court 1.

Mika vs Bencic would definitely be worthy of Court 1, I just worry about making Mikas match a headliner in case it puts too much pressure on her

I was thinking Mika v Belinda as well to keep the Brit interest but have a high ranked opponent. What a shame for Emma.

It is also possible that Harriet could be moved to Court 1, as she is scheduled for a second match today. The 1:00 pm start will help as it is a couple of hours later than the outside courts.

I think that would be the best, most logical idea

Why is Harriet scheduled to play twice today ?

She isn't - she is scheduled for the second match on Court 17, following a men's match
