Weeks 26-27 - The Championships, Wimbledon - Singles - grass

And as I suggested Harriet v Ostapenko has now been moved to Court 1

And Rusik v Lucky Loser has moved to Court 17

It is also possible that Harriet could be moved to Court 1, as she is scheduled for a second match today. The 1:00 pm start will help as it is a couple of hours later than the outside courts.

Why is Harriet scheduled to play twice today ?

She isn't - she is scheduled for the second match on Court 17, following a men's match

Harriet vs Penko is now first on court 1

Semenistaja gets the LL spot v Rusik with the winner playing Harriet or Penko.

Whooo. Lovely start from Mika. 2-0. Really settles the nerves

Not enough first serves to get out the game and the final double fault was a bit predictable.

Chance to stay ahead but Bencic has settled and worked Mika out a bit now - reading her game which you'd expect really.

2-2*

Exactly - the first serve suddenly disappeared completely, and Bencic reigned things in

But Mika's going to have more chances

Bencic has the game to frustrate Mika and exploit her weaknesses, especially if Mika can't land her first serves

But not too many if she keeps panicking now she's behind. It's like the belief switch has gone off.

Jeremy Bates with his helpful face of disdain in the corner....

I feel for Mika. She's had two rough draws here and could definitely have posed a fair chunk of the draw some real issues, but the level gap (at the moment anyway) is quite clear now Bencic has got going.

*2-5

The problem is really Mika's biggest strengths aren't all that helpful against Bencic, who is able to read, absorb and redirect pace as well as anyone. So even when she lands a big strike Bencic is just there sending it back with interest into a really awkward spot.

That's 8 games.

0-2*

Sadly this feels like it could go quickly here ... 8 games in a row for Bencic and Mika looks very concerned

Bencic too solid and experienced, Mika hitting error after error. There have been LOTS of balls into the middle of the net.
