What's with all these foreigners with English names?
Well, that sort of works both ways, don't you think? And that is a good thing.
Indeed, but it is surprising that it happens in that direction especially when nationalism is such a big issue nowadays, and not least changing allegiance to Germany when he presumably has recent ancestors who fought against the Germans. I hasten to add that I'm saying all of this from a sociological pov rather than getting worked up about traitors and needing to go put more flags on lampposts.
Oliver knocks out the junior #4 and Aussie Open champ, 6-4 6-4, the Slovenian actually made the semis of Roehampton last week - so has some decent recent experience on the grass.
An amazing win for Ollie!!! Hes always been a great player but quite slight, seems like a great example
of a later developer. I must say Tennis Wales do seem to be more supportive of this kind of player compared to the LTA High Performance Team. One to highlight to Judy Murray
You would have thought Mackenzie had won the whole thing the way he reacted at the end.
I caught a bit of Mark's match which looked high quality. The German (born in New Zealand to a tennis coach who moves around) looked like a red-headed version of Boris Becker, and has adopted some of his mannerisms, for better or worse. Like Boris he knows his way around a grass court, and took Alex Bolt to a third set tiebreak in Halle
Oliver's win is a pleasant surprise, as the seeds tend to be much less vulnerable to lowly ranked wildcards in their second matches
Rhys has a very tough round 3 against the Dutch wunderkind, who has struggled with injuries, but still beat Yibing Wu (ATP 102) and lost in a third set tiebreak to Daniil Medvedev in s'Hertogenbosch
