The grass did Jake well, got used to winning and won some tough battles, solidified his game again. Great if he can make the top 100 once more!

Ilkley was where it seemed to come good, he roughed out some good wins that week, but that 5 set win over Michelsen at Wimbledon (playing him here in the final tomorrow? Tasty!) and then Newport where a step on. Good stuff .

Was Toby lucky? He chose a lower ranked tournament and played really well. Jake played well too but Michelson was a tough proposition being considerably ranked than the rest of the field.

I have amended my original post. It was an unfortunate choice of adjective. It was never my intention to belittle Toby's achievement, nor, indeed, the size of the task Jake had to confront, though the fact that he was competitive in the first set had given me hope...

I have amended my original post. It was an unfortunate choice of adjective. It was never my intention to belittle Toby's achievement, nor, indeed, the size of the task Jake had to confront, though the fact that he was competitive in the first set had given me hope...

I realised you weren't intending to belittle Toby SC, I was just a bit taken about by the suggestion "luck". And I'm sorry for the additional criticism which my comment provoked. It was never my intention to offend or upset you.

Don't worry about it. I've had worse directed at me over the years & I generally ignore it, particularly easy to do if it's couched in semi-literate language. wink I felt you deserved at least an attempt at an explanation.

Thank you - especially as my comment was also somewhat illiterate! It should have read "considerably higher ranked"
