Weeks 31 & 32 - ATP Masters 1000 - National Bank Open - Montréal, QC, Canada hard)

L96:  Térence Atmane (FRA) WR 56 (CH = 41 in April) vs (WC) Jack Draper WR 147 (CH = 4 in June last year)

L96:  Ugo Carabelli (ARG) WR 75 (CH = 43 last August) vs Cameron Norrie WR 39 (CH = 8 in September 2022)

I was surprised to see Jack's name still in the list of runners & riders in the main draw, so I wonder whether he'll actually make use of that wild card.  An article about his withdrawal from Washington in The Times dated Monday (27/7) says:

He remains hopeful of playing in Montreal and Cincinnati before the US Open and has said he is "getting closer to where I want to be".

Only just realised that this event only has one round of qualies?! Apparently same as last year but I must have forgotten that. Seems a weird call? Its almost like why not just put them all in a bigger main draw?

I'd also not realised that qualies was just a single round. I don't have a problem withit though, I think one round of qualies might work better with fitting two 96 draw tournaments into just three weeks instead of the four that has been the historic norm. Also, fewer qualies matches may facilitate having concurrent Challenger events, perhaps this was part of their thinking.  I note that there are two 125 Challengers in week 33 (17 Aug), the week before US Open Qualies.

Is anyone going to watch at Roehampton later this month? I've been a member of this board for maybe as much as a couple of decades but have still yet to meet a fellow board member.
