Her consistent inability to bring in her targets astounds me. It doesn't even need to be that good, it just needs to not be whatever this is supposed to be.
A sobering defeat. I wonder where Katie's head is right now. A glamourous wedding is a real high in her life. She's just turned 30. So maybe another 2/3 years at the top of the game. How much does she still want it I wonder. She needs her serve to work or her game lacks the variety to trouble the top players.
GB women's tennis is in a bit of a mess at this exact moment. Katie now especially off form, Sonay out injured, Emma out injured. Fran only really able to compete on clay. Jodie with long term fitness issues, same with Katie Swan and Heather basically coming towards the end of her career. Also a mixed year for our younger players so far. With injuries and the understandable vagaries of form found in young players.
Doubles draw should be out later today.
Liv and Tereza were 11th on the acceptance list.
Maia (with Luydmyla Kitchenok) were 23rd (out of 24 direct acceptances)
Liv and Tereza are entered for Cincinnati, and Maia with Andreja Klepak
Maia's match has been suspended due to rain at 5-7 *4-5 *15-40. The weather seems to have made it's way over from Montreal where there was a 90 minute delay to the start of play.
