How many spots away is Alicia now?

Sorry you take it that way CD. I only removed the incorrect and misleading information in the posts to avoid future confusion. I didn't touch the rest of your post - nor Jonh's. I did say last night that I would tidy it up.

That's OK

As above, it is something I feel strongly about and I don't think that Lambda's point as to what is 'legal' or not has any relevance to a forum (apart from in extreme cases, of course)

And I'm still a little sore (in general) about the poor chap who quit because he got hounded about how his posts should be formatted

To be honest, I don't even really like it when SC, say, corrects someone's spelling or whatever - she's not wrong, and maybe it makes the forum look sloppy if not, but the integrity, and freedom, of people's posts is important, I feel.

But, honestly, all good, no worries, and thank you smile

Johnny Aitch I think it was and yes, that was a poor time in the forums recent past.

As someone who makes many typos and grammatical errors due to a combo of fat fingers, haste on an iPhone and lack of care in checking back, Id hate it if anyone ever tried to correct those or , actually worse, pointed out my mistakes - we should never judge others and their mistakes, or feel superior to them because we feel we know better. I realise TA doesnt and didnt do that, some others do.

I certainly think that some mistakes ( almost always unintentiomal ) are worth pointing out, such as our starter here, if being pretty relevant wrong / misleading info. And almost always folk do this "nicely" as Andy says. And that is surely reasonable for clarity going forward.

Otherwise I see loads of relatively minor ranking and more particularly general spelling errors that I wouldn't dream of bringing up, unless it has an amusing result. I would probably point out a doubles rather than a singles ranking and vice versa.

I do point out player spelling / hyphen ( as very recenty ) errors in most contexts such as results if I think it may well have been genuinely thought correct as opposed to being a typo. I again think that's reasonable and helpful but if folk think otherwise ( why? ) I could easily stop doing so.

Actually Jon I have no awareness of people here judging others or giving any impression of being superior, just trying in their minds to be helpful. But if any folk have issues about some of the things being brought up, fair dos, I am sure folk will listen.

the mistakes interfered to in my message werent factual or rankings, lets call them technical, errors - quite right to point them out. More when someone points out grammatical or writing errors. Doesnt happen often, but does on occasion.

We had a member around 3 or 4 years back, I forget who, but their written English was terrible and a few folks had a go at him. He explained he had problems around writing and wrote as he spoke - does anyone else recall that? Im going to say his board name was Junior. He left soon after and it left a taste

in my mouth. As did the Johnny Aitch thing.

But it doesnt happen often, I agree.

I remember junior!

I am also not a fan of my posts being altered without me doing it (if I see fit to, I.e wrong title) and I have fallen out with SC before about it before. But we have typos and awkward phrases in everyday life, why not on the board too? None of us are perfect.

But I am not trying to gang up on the addict or anyone else.

I think the heat is maybe getting to everyone and making tempers fray! Let's all be friends! (And thank you to The Addict, Stircrazy, CD, JonH, seagull and everyone else for all you do on here, it makes the forum what it is!)

And in the meantime, come on Alicia, would be wonderful if she makes the cut for qualies!

I agree - but I think there's a big difference between someone pointing it out and someone changing it for you

i.e. we all want the titles (in particular) to be right and we all appreciate the people who spend a lot of their time creating the threads (the addict and SC come to mind) so if there's an error in the title, it's perfectly fine and normal to post: "SC/the addcit/whoever, I think this should be a W15 not a W35' or whatever

But that's not the same as someone coming in and changing it - that wrankles people, as Blue Belle says

That's a helpful list and hopefully there will be one more withdrawal for Alicia to sneak in.  It is a bit strange that there is no full official qualifying entry list that I can see on the US Open website and I haven't seen anything official anywhere. I can't recall this happening in recent years at any of the majors.

Anyway just one more to withdraw - any non-Brit withdrawal will be much appreciated.

Thanks for that Lambda and very much hoping we get one more withdrawal, still wild that it could come down to the match she surprisingly lost to an inspired and improved Millie

Teichmann has announced she's withdrawing so I think that should be enough for Alicia to play

Yay. I very much hope that Alicia is fit and well after her retirement in Spain early this month, the week after that Dublin W50 R2 loss to Millie that looked like it could possibly have scuppered her US Open Q chances. Anyone any news on that fitness front, given no real opportunity to play fit or not?

Such a reward after just 15 months on tour after her college foundation, building from the bottom up to over recent months adding points at top 200 level and overall evidently good enough for Slam Q entry.

I think it depends on the psychology of the person involved. When I was copying results across I used to double check my post but still made mistakes. I didn't mind them being pointed out as I preferred my posts to be correct. I often thanked people for pointing out the errors. I notice errors in other people's posts but only occasionally point them out as I don't know how they would react.

Tennisforum reporting Alicia had already withdrawn from the alternates list

What a shame.
