Boys & Girls: U9-U14 National Championships, Nottingham, hard (Week 33)

The main draws of the lower age groups for the Nationals start today, with the under 14 boys.   Some top names from the Tennis Europe rankings are missing from the draw, including Liam Sharkey and Max Hodkinson, but Oskar Laskowski is here as top seed.  The under 14 girls start on Monday, whilst other age groups begin with round robins.  One innovation this year is electronic line calling, which should avoid the issue of individual players making questionable calls.

Draws can be found when available on the LTA Competition page

Live scores can be found here  (U9 and U11 matches currently on court, with U14 later today)

Live streams are available from 5 courts on the LTA Youtube page

Instead we get the electronics to make questionable calls. PlayReplay is used in US College and lets just say its made calls that neither player have agreed with.

 But at least neutral and 'fair' questionable calls 

Neither player agreeing is fine 

One player effectively cheating is another mater entirely  

I've seen some atrocious examples over this summer - one player I even wrote to the LTA and his club about

Kudos to you CD the way you have quite often brought this up over time and indeed called it out with these involved with players.

 There are always dodgy calls, and that's understandable 

Sometimes players are mistaken, sometimes they WANT so badly the ball to be out, that they see it that way 

Sometimes there's just a little bit of 'cheating' round the edges - not great, but.....

This case, however, was SO flagrant that it was disgraceful - and the player when pushed, and a bit agitated, even basically admitted it - and not just in one match either - I've seen three different matches of his recently 

A French coach at one of the matches also complained (not that the other player was French, or the French guy had anything to do with it, he was just so annoyed / shocked)

Six seeds made it through to the U14 boys quarters, but there will be an unseeded player in the semis. The under 14 girls start Monday with Kate Murray, Bella Rebel and Ginny Chen as the top three seeds

Nathaniel lost in the U11 knock-out (looking at the k.d.tennis insta feed Natty plus the three older sisters are the only ones mentioned), whilst Bella Rebel was the one seeding casualty in the under 14 girls today (lost to wildcard Marlena Koberska-Wasiak)

 Is the electronic line calling the same from the WTA/challenger tournament and a permanent feature?

 A big result from Marlena 

Pretty impressive to have got a J30 title at only age 13 last week

Seemingly she's back from quite a long lay-off for injury 

Will be interesting to see how she goes 

 

Glad to see Caleb doing well

I thought he had a lot of potential when I was watching him on livestream a month or so back - it's a rather 'rough and ragged' game at the moment - a lot to work on - but there's some really good qualities there
