Ollie takes the first set 6-2 against the 4th seed, though Ollie is clearly very underranked. The winner plays Charles in the QF.

Yay Mark again. biggrin

He was *1-4 down in the 2nd set and saved 2 SPs on the way to turning it round to *6-5 30-0. Then taken to that TB which he went and won.

Guaranteed British finalist, thats good. Mark v Anton is interesting. Charles beat Oliver last week and comfortably, not sure Id expect that to be as easy this time .

Worth noting that I think the last time we had someone aged 17 or younger make the quarters of a challenger was a 16 year old Andy Murray at Manchester 2003

Very impressive stuff from Mark to be winning matches at this level at his age

Wideopen draw with just two seeds left. Despite Charles being highest ranked, Ollie T seems to be tournie favourite based on Tennis Abstract forecasts.

Player SF F W
Anton Matusevich (GBR) 52.0% 16.6% 8.1%
(WC)Mark Ceban (GBR) 48.0% 14.5% 6.8%
(WC)Oliver Tarvet (GBR) 61.6% 44.9% 31.6%
(6)Charles Broom (GBR) 38.4% 24.0% 14.5%
Lui Maxted (GBR) 29.9% 5.7% 0.9%
Gabi Adrian Boitan (ROU) 70.1% 24.9% 7.5%
(8)Michael Geerts (BEL) 37.6% 23.6% 8.5%
Lucas Poullain (FRA) 62.4% 45.7% 22.0%

Surprised Ollie is such a strong favourite over Charles, lets see if he can justify this. Good luck to all 5 Brits left in.

Oliver has looked like he's battling the ball these past two weeks - it's not flowing - he's very good at keeping himself pumped up, he's got a team rooting for him, he keeps focused - but him and the ball are a battle

 Good point smile

To me, the most impressive thing is the progress - he started off very good in flashes in adult matches, going for broke, but without the focus to carry it through, and going AWOL, or getting frustrated - to really looking as though he belongs, that he doesn't have to play lights out tennis all the time, that's it's more under control - one mate I was with commented on how 'smart' his tennis was, which is not something I'd really thought as a standout feature about Mark - not saying he played dumb tennis, just that he was in the 'normal' range for that)

And the progress has been very fast

(I'm expecting blips, of course, smile, but the marker has been laid down)

Not sure what it is like down sarf, it is tippling it down here (hurrah!)

When the rain came, Lui had the first set in the bag, 7-5.

Ollie seemed to be living up to the Tennis Abstract prediction and had won the opening set 6-4. Not sure if he was doing better than CD's observation above or just grinding out a result, but a set up at this stage.

Oliver had his serve more on song - which made a huge difference - and was great to see
Still not really flowing, I'd say
And Charlie blew his last game - only himself to blame
