Even by Jodies standards this is a pretty heavy collapse

Jodie where did that come from?!

How far does Harriet need to get to move back into the top 100? She's been creeping back up

Sramkova has been lacking wins over recent months but I still didn't at all see that coming. Well done, Jodie !

From this China Open it looks like Harriet would need to reach at least R4/L16 to get back into the top 100. So think for now I'd settle for her continuing to get closer with a main draw win or two.

She is WR 116 at 28/09 on 662 points. She has 35 points to drop, qualifying plus R4 points would give her 150 points, so net up 115 points to 777 points.

777 points would currently have her at live ranked 95 but that is before everyone else adds points for the coming 2 weeks. I think a pertinent comparison is that Emma is the current official WR 100 at 28/09 on 785 points, so might be tight.

Thanks Indi, I was thinking about it with regards to heading into the AO but I see Harriet also has a couple more big counters to drop before the end of the year. Would be wonderful if our 5 top ladies could get in without having to go through qualifying

I see Emma has dropped to live 102 and no evidence she will play again anytime soon; Fran is live 99 and not playing this week. So we could end this week with just Katie in the top 100. Harriet seems to be having a good start to the week in Beijing, hopefully she can make in roads back into the top 100!

Yes, we will no doubt have just 1 in the top 100 in the next rankings. But  that is largely injury related, and I kind of see it as a technicality for now. While I have bemoaned the depth of GB women tennis, we have rarely had such a strong top 5.

This century, apart from one week, it is only in fairly recent times with the current group that we have has 4 in the top 100 ( never 5 ). As of now we have 4 in the live top 111 and Sonay, though now at live 189 after 6 months out, clearly a top 100 level player. Harriet's discussed steady move back up the rankings has been very good to see.

Please all get and stay fit ladies. But is is a good group, with top 100 / Slam MD contenders.

Jodie did so well in the first set then the higher ranked player was able to dominate.

And we can be fairly confident that without her longtime health and fitness issue Katie S would've been around if not inside the top 100 for most of her career. Plus with Alicia and Sofia sucessfully transitioning from college to pro tour with hopefully more to follow and our teenage talents I think we're in a much better place than we have been for a long time
