Weeks 39-40 WTA1000 China Open, Beijing - Hard

I guess a win is a win but hard to imagine Jovic won't hammer Harriet in the next round

I guess I was looking at her couple of appearances in ITF tournaments this year and basing it on that rather than her Juniors standing

Daniella Britton is JWR 20 and at 15 yo more on the up ( already ranked higher in seniors from a few appearances ). I'd expect Harriet to take care of Dani pretty handily and I certainly expected that match to be very much more comfortable.

So, will no doubt need to up a good few levels, Harriet.

Jovic is another level to any of these though, WR13 and on the up. I see she is on the players council as well, so obviously motivated beyond playing tennis and presumably a bright cookie as well

Katie lost 12 points in a row from 4-1*

But overall played so well, but still couldn't get a set. (3)6-7 0-0*

Im impressed she steadied things after Muchova got back to 4-4, Muchova was stronger on the big points at the end though

R2:- Katie Boulter (GBR) WR56 lost to Karolina Muchova (CZE) WR8 [7] (3)6-7 1-6

A good fight in the first set, but Muchova always looked as if she would come out on top. Double break in the second set despite a lot of good play.

Doubles draw has just been released

R32:- Anna Danilina (KAZ) / Desiae Krawczyk (USA) CR39 (6+33) [7] v Maia Lumsden (GBR) / Alexandrova Panova (***) CR85 (38+47)

R32:- Hao-Ching Chan (TPE) / Miyu Kato (JPN) CR72 (40+32) v Tereza Mihalikova (SVK) / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR56 (28+28)

Winners meet in the second round.

Danilina has teamed up with Krawczyk as Krunic is out for the season. Liv and Tereza really could do with at least 5 wins between here and in Wuhan as they have a lot of points to defend (605), and are still in with a chance in the race.
