 Her pre- tournament ranking is a bit false though.  What was her  pre-injury ranking?  That would be more realistic.

 

A great chance to win this tournament.  Sonay looks fit and fresh in comparison to many other players.

Sonay was WR 54 going into Indian Wells and WR 56 afterwards, as she repeated her L16 run of 2025.

Of course her WR 170 after 6 months out was totally false, I wasn't at all meaning to.suggest otherwise - see my mini / midi vibe discussion with Jon where I was downplaying a bit ( in comparison to Emma's fairytale in New York ) what is still clearly a brilliant week, mentioning her CH 44 and previous WTA 1000 weeks.

Yes

But her WR 170 ranking is not 'totally false'

I mean, if she had lost in the first round in this event, everyone would be saying, 'well, she's only just back from a long lay off, you can't expect too much straight off' etc etc

So, although post injuriy rankings may be somewhat misleading, they are also 'true'
