Shame for Maia - doesn't help her chances of usurping Liv as number one, but nor does it kill them off.
After next weeks events, where she plays in China at the 250 event, and Liv plays in Tokyo at the 500 event, are either of them likely to play more events this season. There is obviously Hong Kong and Chennai in two weeks, I think I saw Maia down for that week in one or the other. Are either of them likely to play in subsequent 125 events during November or December?
Errani & Paolini lost to the top seeds, Bucsa & Melichar in straight sets.
So the race battle for #9 ( effectively #8 for the WTA Finals ) is showing as :
9. Errani & Paolini - 2417 points - lost in Ningbo R1 10. Nicholls & Mihalikova - 2376 - lost in Ningbo R1 11. Eikeri & Gleason - 2278 - in Ningbo QF 12. Routliffe & Sumjiadi - 2273 - in Ningbo QF 13. Aoyama & Liang - 2220 - lost in Ningbo R1
Presumably all will go in Tokyo next week, as opposed
to the Chinese event?
The good news is that the pairs in 11 and 12 play each other in their next match.
the bad news is that the pairs in 11 and 12 play each other in their next match
Eikeri & Gleason beat Routliffe & Sumjiadi to move into the SF on 2365 points. Much less of a win / lose situation with them now. Just lose ladies, but otherwise have a nice day
Contenders for the last spot - according to Coric. It looks impossible for any other pairs to qualify now, although of course they may well affect the final outcome.
