Week 42 - WTT100 - Wrexham, Great Britain - Indoor Hard

I didn't have Commentary on but I think it was Hannah with the MTO but not sure what for... Seemed fine on resumption great match though!

I almost missed the MTO, but a brief glimpse at the end suggests to me that it was Hannah having treatment for blisters maybe.

It was for a fall she had during the second set (not at the start).

Brilliant point, BTW, she fell flat on her face and to everyone's surprise got up and picked the volley off.

Haven't seen too much of Hannah before, very nice player to watch lovely ball skills. Can see why Mirra Andreeva is her favourite player.

It used to be Ash Barty

Which was always a major problem, IMO, as she was modelling herself on completely the wrong player, given her physique etc

But, yes, she's always had amazing ball skills - it really stood out as a youngster - although almost too high a level of ball skills for a lot of the time, because she would have too many choices, get herself caught going round in circles.

It was fine as a kid because she'd be bouncing all over the place, going: look, a clever dinky volley, look, an inside out slice backhand..... but as she got older she was over-thinking it and lost a lot of the bread and butter shots.

And the NTC's emphasis on defence added to it.

For the last year, and 6 months in particular, she's been sorting out her regular topspin backhand and - crucially - moving up the court a bit, taking the forehand a tad earlier, not getting pushed back, and focusing on her court position and the intent on the ball

I think she fell and grazed the skin on her hand

Looks like Hannah moves up to 3rd in the under 18s live senior rankings. Just behind Julieta P but a fair way behind Kristina Liutova, 16 and around 107. Kristina purported to be looking for her green card and wants to represent the US. She has been training.in the US since around 2020.
