Week 42 - WTT100 - Wrexham, Great Britain - Indoor Hard

Nice break back, *3-4

Yes, a real pity the attendance is so miserable for a combination of reasons. Being as miserable last year at this time does not make it any better.

Two more breaks

And Dani has now laid down a really impressive game - making a statement

4-4

In the 5-5* game I had been thinking Cabrera had gone long during the 30-15* point but not called then Dani overhit a big chance at 30-40*. So *5-6. Then she came through the next game very well for 6-6 and a deciding TB.

Saved the worst until last unfortunately.

Both so tight in the tie break.
Experience came though, but nothing in it. Daniella will learn a huge amount from that match.

Dani lost the TB

She played an excellent match for her age, for her experience

And it's good that there are things to work on - she didn't really commit to some of those shots in the TB

- it's the tendency to try and play carefully but then you don't get enough rotation on the ball, because you're holding back a bit, and so the ball normally flies long as it doesn't have the normal spin to bring it back in

Getting a little static is so common too - your legs are tired

She'll be cross with herself

But it was a very good showing

Lack of top Brits is also a factor.

Missing for numerous reasons all ranked correctly - Sonay, Fran, Harriet, Katie S, Mika, Heather, Mimi

Very impressive I thought. Overall, she had the better game, although as CD says, there are times when she doesn't get her feet into position. She's not committed to every shot.

Pity rhe TB was so messy but kind of understandable, like for some reasons CD said. It's more experience to be banked.

But overall Dani has only reemphasised the excellent progress she has been making, and can make so much more. Looking a really good prospect.

The acoustics make for a hard watch. I think there is some commentary but basically can't hear it over the echoes. Or maybe just my laptop?

Dani is playing quite well. Shame there are not more people there to see it. Very disappointing attendance.

Comes back to the pricing no

She did well not to wobble here, as she did in the first set

But of course the second is easier if you've lost the first, less pressure

Now will be the clutch moment

However, win or lose, she's certainly shown that the tennis is there (and obviously getting better all the time, she's still only 15)

Does it though? You can buy a week pass for a reasonable sum.  I doubt there would have been that many more people there had the entrance been £10.

I am not sure if is price. The summer grass challengers like Ilkley get good crowds as the interest and momentum is there, the build up to Wimbledon and the event is getting profile in the area as a place to go to. And a good set of players enter it, again linked to timing.

We are out of season now, not sure there are many players here to attract people other than genuine tennis fans and mid week, this time of year...cant see it would pull me to it whatever the price...
