Dejan Petkovic looking after hsr coaching this week

Officially her fulltime coach, as of October, it would appear (although I wouldn't swear on it)

Good choice !

(and great that the 'other' guy is nowhere around smile)

Isn't this Mika's first win in the  main draw on  the WTA tour?

 Yes, as paulisi said earlier.

She's played Wimbledon twice, London once, Tokyo twice, but this is her first win.

L16: Mika Stojsavljevic (GBR) WR411 [LL] vs Zeynep Sonmez (TUR) WR67

Have amended the WR for Mika as per the above comment from the addict.

So pleased to see Mika won, after recent struggles. Hope she's able to back this up with another good performance to strengthen her confidence

I'm not sure its fair that all the British players get to receive elite coaching from Mr Bates. Maybe there are some foreign players who would benefit from his expertise?

It is a pity that Mika has taken herself so far away that it is is outside JB's normal travel zone

I think Mika has now well and truly justified her trip to Asia as opposed to North Wales

Not fair to have a go at Wrexham. Would you have made the same comment if it was Ilkley ?Mika was lucky to get in main draw because so many players withdrew.Fernadez withdrew in this case.Such is the game these days if a player does well in the  tournament week before they find a reason for not playing the following.  week.Rightly or wrongly Mika did a promotion to say she was playing Wrexham and instead then got well beaten in her first event in Asia. Don't forget she was well beaten in her 2nd qualfiiying  match here.Kenin is a former grand slam winner and runner up but that is years ago now.

I wasnt at all having a go at Wrexham - in general, justified in going for the bigger events than staying at home and playing domestic events. That was the point.

I think people around here just get too sensitive, I am afraid. Maybe I need to think how I write my messages a bit more, but folks just need to calm down and think a little about what is being said.

Thank you

confuse - I didn't see Jon as having any go at Wrexham, just as a counter to those folk who were seriously questionong Mika's scheduling. Personally I did think it was worth going ( and yes placating sponsors ) for the experience whether she had won or not.

edit : I see Jon got in himself already

totally, and even if she did lose to Eala easily and in qualies here, she got a main draw win (via whatever route) and against a big name and I am sure will have learnt a lot from the experience (with more to come) and played in two locations (Tokyo and Hong Kong) where I am sure she would have loved the experience, got treated very well by the hosts and enjoyed her time.

Wrexham, Ilkley, Harrogate or St Mirren wouldn't have offered that!

Am not sure anyone in their right mind would have seen that as John having a pop at Wrexham.

Fine but what if you had bought tickets for Wrexham wanting to see her play and find she was off to Asia instead. He didn't answer the question if it had been Ilkley?

 1) I think that is on the organisers re who and how they publicise the event

2) re Ilkley - I did in in passing; I would have had exactly the same view. Ilkley as an event and place would stand up to it, the Wrexham event with Hannah's run to the title did perfectly well out of it. Ilkley would also have survived in the same way. And I would take Tokyo and HK over Ilkley any day, much as I like Ilkley! Betty's only has a certain appeal!

PS I did mention it in passing in my response to Indy a couple of posts later
