Surprised Burrage is so lowly ranked with such good ball striking. Serving for match
Hate to say this but if there's 1 player you wouldn't put your house on when serving for the match its Jodie. When she got to the top 100 the biggest change for her was her mental approach. If she could get in that positive mindset again when playing I'd see no reason why she couldn't get back towards the top 100. Without it however she may struggle to make the top 200.

Are you still so surprised Toby?
Tbf she is in general still so much better a player than her current ranking, which is much more to do with her playing no ranking events from September 2025 to June 2026 so all her ranking points just being from June onwards. And at times still being not clearly fully fit at times thereafter. More than half of her ranking points have been earned in just the last 6 weeks including 4 wins against top 200 players.
An aside. Jodie has posted on Insta some of the horrendous posts following her defeat today. It is absolutely awful. Good on Jodie for calling it out but TBH who would want their kids or grand kids involved in this game? Awful.

Thats horrific.
I suspect that Jodie is someone who can compartmentalise. But yes, it is in general horrific and good that Jodie calls out what players, and young players in particular, endure.
I've heard that the MTO for Jodie in the third set was because she was suffering from heat-stroke. I haven't seen confirmation myself yet.
Yes that's what it was for. Was very clear on the TV coverage what was happening.
It gets so hot and humid in Chennai, heat-stroke is really disabling, it's not fair to blame a player for losing, in that situation. I remember Swan playing Nao Hibino in Chennai a few years back, and the 2nd set was a disaster, Swan throwing up in a bucket, MTO wrapped in ice towels, whereas Hibino seemed to be untroubled by the heat. Ironically that match had it all, because Swan recovered a little in the third and went gung-ho hitting winner after winner after winner to incredibly take the match, though she was absolutely out on her feet at the end.
