I've heard that the MTO for Jodie in the third set was because she was suffering from heat-stroke. I haven't seen confirmation myself yet.

Yes that's what it was for. Was very clear on the TV coverage what was happening.

She was soaking with sweat and visibly struggling towards the end, looked pretty miserable out there.

What surprised me was the statistic that 42% of the posts were from gamblers.  What motivates the other 58% of people to make vile comments?

I suspect it may be more than 42%,. I can't see how they can really tie down an accurate figure.

But yes whatever the figure is, what does motivate the rest? - not that that gives any excuse whatsover to the gamblers. Pathetic at any time when they chose to take a punt with such uncertainty, quite apart from Jodie suffering bloomin' heatstroke ( not that they'ed care or likely be even aware of ).

What ever it is that motivates people to criticise a player for their performance, it won't be people who have devoted themselves to the pursuit of something which takes dedication, thousands of hours of practice, physical and mental preparation and sacrifices like not seeing loved ones for weeks on end.

You can bet your house on that!!

Are the haters British or from various far flung places? They are even less likely to be worried about holding back. Keyboard warriors. Worst thing about social media and I am surprised more players just don't forego the whole thing.

warriors? A warrior doesn't stand behind a shield that makes them impervious to harm, making little jabs at those who have fallen, there's no courage in that

Isnt keyboard warriors the general phrase for cowards who make jibes from behind their keyboards without showing their faces? Warriors is supposed to be sarcastic phrase in that context.

That is what I mean to convey - sorry if that was wrong?

No, in general perfectly correct, Jon, indeed the whole sarcastic point being that they are at a keybord, not out in the open. Though those folk go so far I prefer 'scum' myself.

Drat. Wasn't a great level but they had chances (lost all three deuce points). Time for Mana to enjoy her retirement and for Em to find a stronger partner to try and get back into the top 200 by the end of the year.

Eden and Freya had a bit of a shocker too

Sorry Jon if my comment conveyed disagreement with you. I've heard of the term, actually thinking it meant people who spinelessly harked on about something without actually having any knowledge about the subject or took any action themselves. I was trying to add my voice in support of you .. not the first time I've made a comment on a forum, that I haven't expressed well
