Poor Rodger Federer looked quite shell shocked towards the end of that match. This was meant to be the tournament where he equaled Lendl's record of 18 consecutive finals but again his achillies heal is those pesky teenagers.
The really amazing thing is that Andy tanked several games where it looked like he was taking the lead and still won in strait sets imagine what the score would have been if Andy had maintained a consistent level.
Chris Baillie: How much did your new coach have to do with this victory?
Andy Murray: Nothing.
Apparently BG just told him to go out and play his game. Right now just being in Andy's corner is giving him confidence, he doesn't have to DO anything.
Two other things I would pick out of the interview. Andy said he was getting tired at 2-2 in the 2nd set but he is aware that he has a tournament to play, he will need to dig deep to justify his new crown of Fed-slayer. Also Andy said that a lot of guys feel they need to hit the lines to beat Fed but he just tried to outplay him and I think that was the key to the match.
Andy returned brilliantly and although he served at 41% virtually every second serve spun up high on the Fed bh so Andy was in every point and then he out rallied the world number one. Simple.
The smiley face was missing on yesterdays signature but it was back today with a vegence.
DID anyone DVD or Video the match? Please, please, please PM or email me!!!!
BEG BEG BEG........
God... please, me to me to, just smoked the first inch of my cigar, and boy does it feel good, no doubt the trolls will be out over on the other board, Fed was poorly Andy was lucky.... Ha' these people live in a bucket....... did I tell you I'm so pleased
Obviously this is a shock but I don't think that we should be too suprised. On form Andy has the defensive game to stay with anyone and enough killer punches to hurt anyone. I just loved the way he broke Federer's back hand down with his relentless assualts on it.
I presume that his critics will be staying quiet for a while

Sorry mate, I actually tried to start recording the game in the first set, but I was unable to, I got some message in french which I didn't understand
I watched the game with that MaxTV program and I'm amazed at what's happened. It is indeed the first time since August 2004 that Federer's lost in straight sets... before that was in March 2004 against some youngster named Nadal...
I was actually going to vote in the poll earlier, with a prediction for Andy to win in 3, but the reason I didn't was that yet again, it seemed that yesyesbadboy had created a topic for a Murray match before his opponent was through; which I wasn't pleased about.
Still, Federer wasn't at his best today, struggled in his match yesterday, and also wasn't at his best last week. Never the less, Andy didn't crumble, and still had to work hard for the victory, also, he could now quite realistically win the US Open Series. Here's hoping.
EDIT: Oops, I just realised, it was May 2004 when Federer last lost in straight sets, August 2004 was when he last went out in the early round of a tournament.
WOW! What a win for Murray! i suppose he deserved the win since federer was not at his best. Good thing for murray was that he knew what he had to to play an almost perfect match, except the 1st set was littered with breaks! Who cares At least everyone going to be talking about murray!! Whos going to take the title! I know he beat the world no1 but i dont think hes going to win it. i think he wanted to win against fed to see how good he is. Weakness is his tiredness, unless the Tursunov/Ginperi match goes to three long sets!
Sky said that murray going to play in the afternoon BST, so enjoy the win while it last, you got a title to aim for!!
Yet again Andy's serve goes missing, Federer breaks him five times in two sets and it's over in straight sets but it's Murray who takes the final point with a backhand pass down the line for an extraordinary win 7-5 6-4.
Federer looked jaded for much of the match, managing only brief spells of his typical dominance; fierce serves, aggressive forehands then dashing to the net to put away sharp volleys into the open court. All too often he dumped sliced backhands into the net, struggled to hit his top spin backhand inside the court, and even gifted Murray a couple of double faults on break point.
Really this match was all about Murray; Federer was there for the taking and it was a question of whether Andy could execute. He did, though not without some desperately poor serving that made the match a lot closer than it might have been. No first serves as Murray served for the first set at 5-4, poor errors contributing to an awful game that kept Federer alive. But a much better effort second time around with an ace finishing off a game with five out six first serves in play.
Backhand to backhand Andy was on top. He could play it safe going crosscourt or opt for the sudden acceleration to fire one down the line. Federer wanted to run around his backhand but worried about the open space that practically invited Murray to attack deep into the forehand corner. Andy really targeted the Federer backhand, slow high bouncing forehands asked questions that Federer's backhand never answered convincingly. Murray had clearly learnt much from Nadal's success against Roger.
Andy's play was aggressive, superb forehands into the corners for winners, on return his play was excellent, only when serving did his level drop with unnecessary errors doing little to protect an already vulnerable serve. There were a few strange tactical choices: unwise drop shots that ended with Federer finding a winning pass, and some brave, if reckless, decisions to slice midcourt backhands and attack the net that Federer had little trouble dealing with.
The second set was much the same, an early break for Murray, then given straight back, Federer briefly looked to have found some form with a couple of comfortable holds but Murray kept going and broke to lead 4-3 when Federer's game collapsed. Serving at 4-3 30-0 Andy froze and it was back on serve. Roger looked comfortable at 30-0, in serious danger as Murray struck a double-handed backhand down the line for a clean winner to create break point but a good first serve and backhand winner saved that. Andy produced another and Roger's forehand was long for yet another break.
So Andy came to serve for the match, having struggled on serve throughout. He found a first serve that Federer couldn't return for 15-0, then had to rely on his second but Roger struck a backhand wide for 30-0, Andy found a pass to create three match points, and on his second chance he eased a pass down the line to take the match 7-5 6-4.
I am still amazed. I was speaking to my dad before the match (my dad is a big Andy fan, but he's very over-critical of him because he expects so much from him) and I said 'how many games do you think Andy will get tonight?' I was guessing 4 or 5 and my da said that he thought Andy would win. Guess someone seen it coming.
Honestly - great performance and if Andy had managed to serve better the match wouldn't have even been close. Amazing job - the boy is going to be great.
The problem is that he has to avoid having a let-down tomorrow - he must be exhausted both mentally and physically and of course if he goes out tomorrow then I don't think anyone would blame him, but he has a big chance to put big points on the board this week and you just know every other guy in the draw looked at Fed getting beat tonight and their eyes lit up at the prospect of getting that AMS title so he has to try and be the one to take advantage of his hard work.
Gilbert was full of praise for Murray and told BBC Scotland: "It was unbelievable, he broke Federer's serve seven times and there was a lot of ebb and flow in the match.
"But the best four words in tennis are 'Game, set, match, Murray' and those are what we heard today.
"It was a great win for the kid and, hopefully, that will just boost his confidence even more that he can play with anyone in the world."
WE ALL KNOW THAT FEDERER HAS LOST TO 4 PLAYERS SINCE 04 BUT AND HERES THE BUT... WHEN IS THE LAST TIME FED LOST IN THE EARLY ROUNDS, NOT JUST YOUR SAFINS AND GASGUETS AND NADAL'S WINNING IN Q'S FINALS AND SEMIS- BUT THE WORLD WOULD TAKE NOTE IF ANDY BEAT FEDERER
