6-5 to Rochus. He now has a match point, but on Jonny's serve.


I love the way the website describes Jonny as the 'surprise' semi finalist!

Well he came sooo close which is great given the ranking difference. Just a shame he could carry it off at the end.

The blasted little Belgian wins it 7-5 in the 3rd. So bluddy Rochus wins 4-6, 7-6[2], 7-6[5]

However, fantastic effort from Jonny Marray against the world no 30. Safe to say he matched him shot for shot in that match and I don't think he could have given any more.

What a gripping contest

Before the match, I expected Rochus to win in straight sets. It shows just how good a player Jonny Marray is indoors, that he pushed him that close.

I think this scoreline will send shockwaves through most of the GB F13 draw this week

I hope this persuades Jonny to maybe go for qualifying in some of this autumn's European ATPs. He'd have a great chance of qualifying for tournaments like Stockholm, Metz, Lyon, St Petersburg etc and he could do some real damage in the main draw on this form.

It should be high enough to do it as from next Monday he'll be top 400. ATP qualifying are not like Masters series and GS qualies where there's an actual entry list. For ordinary ATP qualifying, you just go along and sign-in at 9pm. People ranked from 300-400 get in quite regularly.

I remember Morgan Phillips once got into an ATP qualifying when he was ranked about 900. However, that is generally an exception !!

Ah, I hadn't realised that. He should definitely go for a couple of them then.


Which tournament did Phillips get into? Did he get beyond the first round?

I really hope that guys like Boggo, Mackin, Marray, Bloomfield and Lee go for some of the European ATPs this autumn [well, Boggo is already going for Mumbai which is great]. Last year Boggo and Mackin played Stockholm and nearly qualified.

Phillips got into ATP Valencia, and took a set off a guy ranked about 200 in rd1 before losing in 3.

We still have GB interest left in this tournament as Marray and Martin Lee play their doubles semi against Gregory Carraz and Dick Norman in the final match today.

Yeah I remember that. Steven dubbed it "Oh, what a total Boggo-up"

To be fair to Boggo, the lucky loser spot only came up on the Tuesday and he would have had to spend an extra night's hotel fees to see if one would become available
