1 in the top 20 (up 1 from 0) 2 in the top 50 (same) 2 in the top 100 (down 1 from 3) 4 in the top 200 (same) 8 in the top 300 (down 3 from 11) 12 in the top 400 (down 5 from 17) 13 in the top 500 (down 5 from 18) 15 in the top 600 (down 6 from 21) 22 in the top 750 (down 7 from 29) 31 in the top 1000 (down 9 from 40) 59 on the ranking list (down 12 from 71)
We have to remember that the end of 2005 was a multi-year high for most of these figures, but even so, there's been a lot of slippage in the last 12 months.
The average drop (no. 1 this year compared to no. 1 last year, no. 2 this year compared to no. 2 last year, and so on, averaged over all of the GB top 40) is 119 places!

However, there have been no less than 9 British players in the top 1000 who have quit tennis or been forced to take a break from action since summer 2005:
Martin Lee, Arvind Parmar, Mark Hilton, Andy Banks, Matt Hanlin and Simon Roberts have all retired. I think David Corrie may have done so aswell.
Colin Fleming has gone back to uni to complete his degree. I don't know whether he plans to return to the tour once finished in May but currently it looks unlikely. Dave Sherwood has been forced to take a break from tennis, not known whether he will return. Miles Kasiri has been forced out of action for virtually all of 2006 but will return at the start of 2007.
Matt Smith and Slabba have been hit hard by having lots to defend from satellites.
The table in the first post in this thread has now been updated to take into account the year-end rankings. Unfortunately, things have got even worse in the six weeks since I posted the provisional figures. Let's hope next year is an 'up' year!
